A week after winning its first Big West Conference Women’s Golf Championship, Long Beach State learned it was headed to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf San Francisco Regional at TPC Harding Park May 7-9, which is hosted by Stanford. The Beach, who earned the league’s automatic qualifier with the conference crown, is making their third NCAA postseason appearance, previously making the 2006 and 2009 NCAA Regionals.
Long Beach State is one of 18 teams participating in the Regional, and is seeded 15th overall. UCLA is the top seed in the region, followed by the hosts Stanford, in a field that also includes South Carolina, Kent State, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Colorado, Louisville, NC State, Ole Miss, California, San Diego State, Pepperdine, Oregon, Grand Canyon, Princeton, Fairleigh Dickinson and six individuals.
Also competing at the San Francisco Regional as individuals is the UC Davis duo of Big West Player of the Year Samantha Hutchison and Christine Danielsson. The pair earned two of the regional’s six individual spots and will compete in the playoffs for the first time in their careers. With Wednesday’s announcement, the Aggies have now advanced to postseason play as a team or individual in every NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship since 2008.
TPC Harding Park is a Par 72, 6,369-yard course, and the participating teams will play a full round of 18 holes each day. Admission is free.
The top six teams and three individuals, from non-advancing teams, from each Regional site will advance to the National Championship, held May 18-23 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Other regional sites include Madison, Wisc., Tallahassee, Fla., and Austin, Texas.
