All-Time Big West MLB Draft Selections
The Big West has two selections on the first day of the 2026 MLB Draft, held Saturday at Philadelphia Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pa. UC Santa Barbara junior right-handed pitcher
Jackson Flora was selected with the fourth overall pick by the San Francisco Giants. Cal State Fullerton outfielder
Paul Contreras was picked in the fourth round, 127th overall, by the New York Yankees.
Flora went 12-0 with a national-leading 1.06 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 102.0 innings of work on the mound in 2026. The Gaucho ace was The Big West Pitcher of the Year, a consensus All-American (ABCA, NCBWA, Perfect Game, College Baseball Foundation and D1 Baseball) and the National Pitcher of the Year according to College Baseball Foundation and Perfect Game.
The Pleasanton, Calif. product was an All-Big West First Team member in 2025 after going 6-3 with a 3.60 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 75.0 innings pitched and an All-Big West Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2024 with five saves and a 3.83 ERA out of the bullpen. Flora is the second-straight top five pick produced by UC Santa Barbara after fellow Gaucho Tyler Bremner went second overall in last year’s iteration of the MLB Draft.
Contreras was an All-Big West First Team member, the conference's Co-Field Player of the Year and an ABCA/Rawlings All-District selection in 2026 after slashing .346/.441/.633 with 65 hits, 14 home runs, 45 RBI and 40 runs on the season.
