The Big West Baseball Championship will take flight in 2027, landing at ONT Field in Ontario, Calif., May 26-30. The five-team event moves to the Inland Empire after two seasons at campus sites and will be contested at a professional baseball venue for the first time since the championship returned in 2025 following a 27-year hiatus.
ONT Field, home of the Ontario Tower Buzzers, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Single-A affiliate in the California League, hosted its first professional baseball game on April 2, 2026. The new 6,000-seat ballpark was named BaseballParks.com’s 2026 Ballpark of the Year.
“ONT Field offers a first-class setting for Big West championship baseball and an exciting opportunity for our student-athletes and fans,” Big West Commissioner Dan Butterly said. “We appreciate the partnership that makes this possible and look forward to bringing our teams and supporters to Ontario to compete for a conference title.”
The championship will maintain the same format used in its first two years, featuring the top five teams in the final regular-season standings. The No. 4 and No. 5 seeds will meet in a single-elimination play-in game on Wednesday, May 26, with the winner joining the top three seeds in a four-team, double-elimination bracket beginning Thursday, May 27. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 29, with an if-necessary game on Sunday, May 30. The champion will earn The Big West’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Cal Poly will seek its third consecutive Big West Baseball Championship title in 2027. The Mustangs defeated UC Irvine in the 2025 championship game at Goodwin Field in Fullerton before edging UC San Diego, 4-3, to claim the 2026 crown at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark in Irvine.
The Big West has earned multiple bids to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship in each of the past two seasons. Cal Poly and UC Irvine represented the conference in 2025, while Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara advanced to the national postseason in 2026.
“ONT Field was designed to be a place where great baseball and community experiences come together,” said Ray Roa, General Manager of ONT Field and COO of the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau (GOCAL). “The Big West Baseball Championship is a natural fit, and we look forward to welcoming student-athletes, families and fans from across the conference to Ontario for exciting championship baseball.”
Located within the Ontario Sports Empire complex, ONT Field offers traditional seating, premium hospitality areas, a grass berm and terraced viewing spaces. Its aviation-inspired identity celebrates the community’s connection to Ontario International Airport. GOCAL estimates ONT Field’s regional economic impact at $14.1 million.
All games of the 2027 Big West Baseball Championship will be streamed live on ESPN+. Additional details regarding game times, ticket pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.
