UC Santa Barbara Caps Season in Regional Final of NCAA Championship

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 6 national seed Texas defeated UC Santa Barbara by a final score of 6-4 in the Austin regional final of the 2026 NCAA Baseball Championship, Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
 
The Gauchos finish their 2026 campaign as the Big West regular-season co-champions with a 40-20 overall record. UC Santa Barbara made its 15th overall showing in the national tournament and fifth in the last seven iterations (1972, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1996, 2001, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024).
 
The Longhorns improve to 43-13 overall and will advance to the super regional round of the national tournament.
 
Gaucho starter Kellan Mongomery threw 5.2 innings of two-run ball, racking up five strikeouts. UCSB center fielder Rowan Kelly went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Left fielder Liam Barrett scored two runs in the game.
 
The Gauchos scored in the bottom of the first inning as Kelly hit a solo home run over the right field wall.
 
Texas took the lead in the top of the sixth with two runs. UCSB responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame as Kelly and Barrett scored on throwing errors ignited by William Vasseur’s single.
 
The Longhorns re-took and extended the lead, 6-3, with two runs apiece in the seventh and eighth innings. The Gauchos scored one run in the eighth inning on a Vasseur RBI groundout to account for the final score of the game.
