UC Irvine's Hiroki Sakagawa Claims Second Weekly Honor of Season

  • UC Irvine graduate student Hiroki Sakagawa went 2-0 in singles to earn The Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor. It is Sakagawa's second career weekly honor from the conference, having won it once earlier this season. 
  • On Saturday, Sakagawa teamed up with Ruining Huang to clinch the doubles point against Saint Mary's with a 6-3 triumph on court three. In No. 1 singles, the Chiba, Japan native defeated Finn Dyer in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. UC Irvine defeated Saint Mary's in the team battle, 4-3. 
  • Sakagawa downed San Diego State's Aleksi Lofman in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in No. 1 singles on Sunday. The Anteaters defeated the Aztecs in the team scoring, 4-3. 
  • On the year, Sakagawa is 4-1 in singles, all at the No. 1 spot.
