Eugene, Ore. – Two Big West women wrapped up the competitive season on the final day of the 2025 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships with UC Irvine’s
Zharia Taylor and
Claudine Raud-Gumiel of Long Beach State closing out the season on the national stage.
Taylor, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., competed in a first-ever Division I national event after transferring from Cerritos College before the 2024-25 school year. Earning All-America honors after turning in second-place finishes in both the heptathlon and high jump last season at Cerritos, Taylor added D1 second-team All-America honors with a 16th-place performance in the high jump from historic Hayward Field on Saturday.
Taylor cleared the first attempt at 1.74 meters and was again successful in the second try at 1.79 meters to garner honors. Taylor is the first Anteater to advance to nationals since 2009 and the first to earn All-America honors since 1997 after a second-place showing at The Big West Championships to help UCI to the team victory and a ninth-place finish at the NCAA West First Round from College Station, Texas.
Also closing out the year on the final day at the track was Long Beach State’s Raud-Gumiel. The 2025 Big West champion and record-holder in the heptathlon opened the second day of competition in 13th place and finished the grueling seven-event competition in 21st overall to pick up distinction as an honorable mention All-American.
Hailing from Vence, France, Raud-Gumiel entered the final day with three events to go: long jump, javelin and the 800 meters. Failing to claim any points after three faults on the long jump, the graduate student regrouped to throw 30.52 meters to take 19th in the javelin. Closing the night with a time of 2:23.07 for 18th-place in the 800 to add 782 points to the tally, Raud-Gumiel accumulated a final score of 4,577 points to take 21st.
