Eleven Athletes with Big West Ties to Compete at 2025 USATF Championships

At least eleven athletes with Big West ties will compete in the 2025 Toyota USA Outdoor Track & Field (USATF) Championships, held July 31 - Aug. 3 at Oregon’s Hayward Field. The USATF Championships serves as the national championships for the United States and as a preliminary meet to determine qualification for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, held September 13-21 in Tokyo, Japan.
 
Two of the eleven participants are current active student-athletes in Chris Caudillo and Rory Devaney, both from Cal Poly. Caudillo will run in the 1500m, while Devaney will be in the hammer throw competition.
 
There are also two athletes who just wrapped up their collegiate careers this past season in CSUN alum Trey Knight (2024-25) and UC Santa Barbara alum Brad Thomas (2022-25). Knight will be in the hammer throw field along with Devaney, while Thomas is in the decathlon.

Four Cal Poly alumni are will compete with Katie Izzo (2015-19) in the 5000m and 10000m, Bobby Poynter (2018-21) in the 800m, Jake Ritter (2017-22) in the 10000m and Sara Van Dyke (2011-16) in the 3000m steeplechase. Former Gaucho Katie Camarena (2016-21) will run in the 10000m. Beach jumping alumni duo of Kemonie Briggs (2016-19) and Jason Smith (2018-22) will participate in the long jump.
