UC Irvine's Anthony Martinez slashed .389/.450/.611 with seven hits, one home run, four runs and nine RBI in four games to win The Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award. It is Martinez's third career weekly honor from the conference, having won the award twice in 2023. The junior started the week with a hit and RBI in a 12-3 win against San Diego, Tuesday night. Martinez went 3-for-5 with one run and three RBI in a series-opening loss to Long Beach State, Friday. The Anteater first baseman hit 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI in an 8-6 game two win, Saturday. In the rubber match Sunday, Martinez hit a 3-run home run as UC Irvine prevailed for a 10-1 victory and took the series. UC Irvine is 11-4 overall to start the year, 2-1 in conference play. Martinez is hitting .355 with 13 RBI so far this season. UC San Diego's Matthew Dalquist threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball against Cal State Bakersfield to earn The Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. It is Dalquist's second career weekly honor from the conference, having won the award once in 2022. The righty tossed a career-long 7.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in a 9-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield, Friday. Dalquist faced just three batters over the minimum into the top of the eighth inning. UC San Diego is 9-7 overall on the season, 1-2 in Big West play. Dalquist is 2-1 with a 1.14 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched.
