The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the 2024 Men's Water Polo All-America Teams, and 14 Big West student-athletes were honored for their efforts this season. All six conference institutions have at least one honoree.
2024 Big West Player and Freshman of the Year Gabi Acosta highlights the group as a second-team selection. During the season, Acosta served as The Big West's leading scorer with 64 goals. The freshman phenom also added 5 assists, 34 drawn exclusions alongside 28 steals and recognized as an All-Big West First Team and All-Freshman Team honoree. Earlier in the year, the center was selected to the Cutino Award Watch List which recognizes the best player of the year. The Barcelona, Spain native becomes the 25th Long Beach State player to be selected as a Second Team All-American.
The remaining student-athletes made their way on the list courtesy of an honorable mention. Long Beach State, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara are tied with the most HM's (3) while Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis put a pair on the list. UC Irvine saw one student-athlete earn the mention. Landon Akerstrom, Bennet Axline, Aleix Aznar Beltran, Dom Brown, Evan Cain, Danilo Dragovic, Tommy Kiesling, Luka Krstic, Julian Nichols, Togan Ozbek, Lucas Romaguera, Corbin Stanley, Aaron Wilson, and Brock Zamanian all represent The Big West across their respective institutions.
LBSU's duo of Cain and Stanley produced 49 and 51 goals apiece in 2024 for the conference champion Beach. This is the second straight season Cain has claimed honorable mention honors. 2024 Big West Championship Aaron Wilson also earned recognition after leading all conference goalkeepers in save percentage for the second straight season (5.07) while ranking fourth best in both saves (157) and steals (29).
Akerstom (58), Axline (39) and Romaguera (44) were the Tritons top-three goal scores a year ago and helped aid the team to its first Big West Championship Final appearance since becoming eligible after transitioning from Division II. UCSD capped of 2024 as the conference runner-up with a 3-2 mark in the regular season.
The Titans see Nichols (41) and Ozbek (48) named HM after being the top offensive options for the Titans a year ago. This is the second straight time Ozbek has claimed the honor.
Aznar Beltran earns the mention behind a 69 point season (39 goals, 30 assists) after earning Third-Team honors in 2023. Redshirt freshman Kiesling sees the attacker on the list after leading the Aggies in scoring last season with 51 tallies.
UCSB's trio of Brown, Dragovic and Zamanian earn the HM for the first time. Zamanian's 52 goals and 40 assists rank highest on the team in both categories while Brown (46) and Dragovic (35) found the net in bunches for UCSB this season.
Luka Kristic sees the junior as the lone Anteater receiving recognition after being named a Third Teamer a year ago. The pride of Belgrade, Serbia led the 'Eaters in points (80) behind 52 scores and 41 feeds.
