The Big West 2025 men's water polo conference schedule follows a 15-game format leading up to the 2025 Big West Men's Water Polo Championship from Nov. 21-23, hosted at Anteaters Aquatics Center on the campus of UC Irvine.
Regular season play begins on Friday, Aug. 29, with UC San Diego hosting the annual Triton Invitational at Canyonview Aquatic Center. League action officially commences on Thursday, Oct. 9, while several key non-conference matchups punctuate the docket.
A few of the marquee matchups and storylines include:
- Long Beach State at UC San Diego — A rematch of last year's championship final, where UCSD became the first program in school Division I era history to reach a Big West title game. LBSU claimed its third overall conference championship (1970 & 1975) and first since the sport's reinstatement in The Big West in 2023.
- Cal State Fullerton at UC Davis — The Titans took last year's championship host UC Davis to the brink during the opening round, 13-11. CSF scored seven times in the second half to chip away at the deficit and nearly clinched its first postseason win since beginning a program in 2023.
- Long Beach State at UC Irvine — A showdown between the 2024 regular-season and postseason champions. UC Irvine earned back-to-back regular-season titles before being edged 15-13 by the Beach in the semifinals. LBSU has won four of the last five meetings in the Black & Blue rivalry.
- LBSU's Gavin Arroyo and UCSD's Matt Ustaszewski will serve as assistant coaches for the United States in the World Championships. Arroyo was named Big West Coach of the Year in 2024, and this will be Ustaszewski's fifth stint as an assistant in the World Championships. Jason O'Donnell also represented the Beach as a player on the Canadian national team.
- National Rankings — For the third consecutive season, five Big West programs finished in the CWPA Top 20 — Long Beach State (T-No. 6), UC Irvine (T-No. 10), UC San Diego (No. 12), UC Davis (No. 14), and UC Santa Barbara (No. 15).
Last season, fifth-seeded Long Beach State emerged victorious after claiming three straight tightly contested contests to clinch the conference crown. The Beach bested No. 4 UC Santa Barbara in stormy conditions before taking down the top seed and defending champion UC Irvine. From there, LBSU landed a close 10-8 victory over No. 2 UC San Diego.
The Beach's season concluded against the third seed and undefeated Fordham in the opening round of the 2024 NC Men's Water Polo Championship. Overall, the Black and Gold have competed on the national stage 14 times in its program's history and qualified for the first time since 2011.
The 2025 Big West Men's Water Polo Championship is slated for Nov. 21-23 in Irvine, Calif, with victor capturing the league's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Championships in December.
