UC Santa Barbara starting pitcher Ryan Gallagher threw eight innings of shutout ball against Cal State Bakersfield to claim The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. It is the Gallagher's third career weekly honor, having won it once earlier this season (April 22) and once in 2022 (April 11).

In an eventual 8-3 team victory in the series opener, the righty scattered two hits with one walk and compiled a career-high 13 strikeouts over eight innings. The Granite Bay, Calif. product carryied a no-hitter into the seventh inning and retired 15 batters in a row from the second out of the first inning to the first out of the sixth inning.

Combined with 15-7 and 7-1 wins in game two and three, respectively, the Gauchos swept the series sweep over Cal State Bakersfield and increased their conference winning strek to 15 games.

UC Santa Barbara is 35-12 overall and tied for first in The Big West with a 20-4 in conference record. Gallagher is 7-1 with a 2.34 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 69.1 innings of work this season. Opposing hitters have struck out more than twice as often (82 K) as they have recorded hits (40) against the Gaucho ace.

UC Irvine outfielder Myles Smith slashed .467/.636/1.067 with six RBI and nine runs over four games to earn The Big West Field Player of the Week honor. It is the second career weekly award for Smith, having won it once earlier this season (April 29).

The redshirt junior started the week by drawing four walks and scoring a run in a 9-6 home win over UCLA on Tuesday.

Smith went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and four runs in an 18-3 road win at Long Beach State in the series opener on Friday.

The Anteater outfielder had three RBI and two runs in an 11-2 victory over the Dirtbags in game two.

The Torrance, Calif. native scored two runs in a 7-1 victory in the series finale that cemented UC Irvine's sweep over Long Beach State on Sunday.
- UC Irvine is 38-10 overall with an 18-6 conference record. Smith currently has a .402 batting average with seven home runs, 36 RBI and 44 runs scored this season.
