UC Santa Barbara's Bremner and UC Irvine's Smith Claim Weekly Honors After Leading Their Teams to Sweeps

    UC Santa Barbara starting pitcher Tyler Bremner threw eight innings of shutout ball against Cal State Fullerton to claim The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. It is the Bremner's first career weekly honor. 
  • In an eventual 4-0 team victory in the series finale, the righty scattered two hits with one walk and compiled seven strikeouts over eight frames. Bremner did not allow more than one baserunner in an inning and was perfect over the sixth, seventh and eighth frames to wrap up a career-long outing.

  • The win cemented UC Santa Barbara's series sweep over the Titans, a feat that had not been accomplished since 1986. 

  • UC Santa Barbara is 28-11 overall and tied for first in The Big West with a 14-4 in conference record. Bremner is 8-0 with a 2.50 ERA and has 62 strikeouts in 54.0 innings pitched this season.

Myles Smith, UC Irvine | Junior • Outfielder • Torrance, Calif. 
  • 8136UC Irvine infielder Myles Smith slashed .600/.609/1.200 with nine RBI and eight runs over four games to earn The Big West Field Player of the Week honor. It is the first career weekly award for Smith.

  • The redshirt junior started the week with a 4-for-5 performance with three doubles and three runs scored in a 9-7 win at UCLA on Tuesday.  

  • Smith hit two home runs at UC Riverside on Friday for three RBI and two runs scored in a 15-1 road win. 

  • Smith hit another home run in game two and collected three more RBI as UCI downed the Highlanders 15-7. 

  • The Anteater outfielder hit 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run in a 12-3 road triumph that completed the series sweep of UC Riverside on Sunday. 

  • UC Irvine is 32-8 overall and tied for first in The Big West with a 14-4 in conference record. Smith currently has a .414 batting average with 29 RBI and 32 runs scored this season.
