Cal State Bakersfield starting pitcher Ryan Verdugo tossed seven shutout innings against Cal Poly to claim The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. It is the second straight weekly honor for Verdugo, having won it last week (April 8).

UC San Diego outfielder Nick Costello slashed .421/.577/.842 with six RBI and nine runs over five games to earn The Big West Field Player of the Week honor. It is the first career weekly award for Costello.

Costello went 5-for-6, including a pair of home runs, for four RBI and four runs in a 15-4 series opener win against UC Irvine on Friday.

The Pleasanton, Calif. product collected a hit, a RBI and a run in the middle game of the series on Saturday.

Costello had the game-winning RBI hit in a 10-9 walk-off victory that secured the series win over UC Irvine for UC San Diego on Sunday.
- UC San Diego is 23-11 overall and 10-5 in conference play. Costello currently has a .282 batting averaged with 20 RBI and 35 runs scored this season.
