CSUN's Fitzer Picks Up Second Straight, Cal Poly Rookie Naess Claims First Career Weekly Honor

    Cal Poly starting pitcher Griffin Naess threw eight shutout innings against Cal State Fullerton to claim The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. It is the first career weekly honor for Naess.
  • In an eventual 6-0 team victory in the series finale, the Mustang freshman limited the Titans to just one hit and one walk, and claimed seven strikeouts in eight innings of work. Combined with reliever Tanner Sagouspe who pitched the ninth inning, it was the program's first one-hitter in almost two decades.

  • The win gave Cal Poly the series win over Cal State Fullerton. The Mustangs dropped the opener 8-2 and won the second game 5-2. 

  • Cal Poly is 14-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play. Naess is 4-0 with a 2.70 ERA, with 33 strikeouts in 33.0 innings of work.

Kevin Fitzer, CSUN | Junior • Outfielder • Aliso Viejo, Calif. 
  • 8012Kevin Fitzer slashed .636/.667/1.636 with seven RBI and seven runs to lead CSUN to a series win against UC Davis to earn The Big West Field Player of the Week honor. It is the second career weekly award for Fitzer having won the same accolade last week (March 25). 

  • The junior started with a 3-for-4 performance with a double and home run, coming up a triple shy of the cycle, recording three RBI and three runs in CSUN's 13-9 win in the series opener on Thursday. 

  • Fitzer drew two walks in the first game of Friday's doubleheader. 

  • The Aliso Viejo, Calif. product went a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with two home runs for four RBI and four runs in an 11-2 win in Friday's rubber game. 

  • CSUN is 16-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play. Fitzer has now reached base safely in 23 consecutive games and is currently batting a team-best .396 with 28 RBI, 27 runs and eight home runs on the season.
