The Big West has received written notification from the University of Hawai`i of their plan to exit The Big West as a full member on June 30, 2026. 

Hawai`i's membership in The Big West dates back 40 years when its women's programs competed in the league from 1984 to 1996. Full Big West membership in both men's and women's sports followed in 2012 and continues through the 2025-26 academic year. 

"Hawai`i has been a great member of The Big West family, has a proud history in The Big West that includes 36 conference titles and three national championships, and we look forward to the having the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine compete for Big West titles in all sports over the next two seasons," Commissioner Dan Butterly said. "Discussions regarding Hawai`i's possible affiliate membership in men's volleyball, beach volleyball, women's water polo and men's swimming and diving will begin today, and we will have further comment on that opportunity at the appropriate time."
