Crew Robinson, UC San Diego
Baseball Field Player of the Week
Senior • Utility • Cedar Hills, Utah |

- Crew Robinson led UC San Diego to a perfect 4-0 road week to round out its third season in the NCAA Division I and The Big West, including a three-game weekend sweep at UC Riverside that clinched the Tritons at least a share of their first-ever Big West title, and has thus earned a first Big West Field Player of the Week distinction.
- Robinson batted .500 (9-for-18) and slugged .833 with five runs, eight RBI, six doubles, one walk, two stolen bases on two tries, a .526 on-base percentage, and just two strikeouts. The product of Cedar Hills, Utah, provided at least one hit, one run, one RBI and one double in all four games, beginning the week with a .248 average and finishing at .281.
- Robinson’s final week of college baseball began with a first-pitch, two-run, 10th-inning double Tuesday night at city rival and Mountain West regular-season co-champion San Diego State that broke a 2-2 tie ahead of a subsequent run scored in the 5-3 triumph that clinched a second straight Trolley Series for the Tritons, three games to one. In Friday night’s opener in Riverside, Robinson provided a two-run single in the third and a two-run double in the ninth, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, one steal and a season-high-tying four RBI.
- The second-year transfer out of the College of Southern Idaho started the four games in center field, but moved over to second base in the sixth inning of three of them, handling all five defensive chances cleanly.
- Robinson is the third Triton to garner Big West Field Player of the Week recognition in 2023, joining fellow senior utility Michael Fuhrman (March 20) and true freshman Brandon Larson (May 1). UC San Diego, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara have three such awards apiece.
Also Nominated: Ali Camarillo (CSUN); Jacob Igawa (Hawai’i); Anthony Martinez (UC Irvine); Nick Oakley (UC Santa Barbara); Cole Santander (Long Beach State)
Izaak Martinez, UC San Diego
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Senior • Left-Handed Relief Pitcher • Glendora, Calif. |
- Senior southpaw Izaak Martinez picked up the save in all three games of first-time Big West champion UC San Diego’s sweep at UC Riverside over the weekend to earn a second Big West Pitcher of the Week award.
- The fourth-year senior out of Glendora threw 6.1 frames (90 pitches), allowing six hits and a solitary run, that in Sunday’s eighth inning, while striking out six against zero walks. Martinez bookended a pair of three-inning saves around Saturday’s one-out stint. Entering a 10-6 game with Highlanders at first and second and the tying run in the on-deck circle, Martinez got a six-pitch flyout to shut the door and clinch the series win.
- Martinez notched a three-inning save in Friday night’s opener with UCR managing just an infield single to begin the eighth and striking out four times. With eight saves over the final four weeks of the season (nine outings, all Triton wins, since April 28) to make it a career-high nine on the year, Martinez moved up to sole possession of second place among The Big West leaders behind only CSUN’s Joshua Romero (11).
- This weekend marked the second time in 2023 that Martinez saved all three games of a road series sweep, having nabbed a first Big West Pitcher of the Week honor on May 1 after registering the final out of three victories at Cal Poly to wrap up April. UC San Diego went 20-4 in Martinez’s team-high 24 appearances, all but one out of the bullpen.
- Martinez joins Matt Ager of UC Santa Barbara and Graham Osman and Nico Zeglin of Long Beach State at two Big West weekly awards each for 2023.
Also Nominated: Matt Ager (UC Santa Barbara); Andre Antone (UC Irvine); Thomas Bainton (CSUN); Evan Yates (Cal State Fullerton); Nico Zeglin (Long Beach State)
