  • Hawai’i freshman Momo Sugiyama tied for sixth place at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic to close the regular-season and earn Big West Women’s Golfer of the Month for April.

  • The Australia native carded rounds of 74-72-73 for a 3-over 219 total, finishing six strokes behind medalist Claire Choi of Santa Clara. She tied UC Riverside's Tiffany Le as the low Big West golfer in the 117-woman field.

  • Sugiyama averaged 3.93 strokes per hole on the par 4s, second in the field, rolling in 40 total pars in the event. She has posted seven Top 5 finishes in 10 tournaments played this season heading into the 2022 Big West Women’s Golf Championships in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

  • This marks Sugiyama’s third Golfer of the Month distinction of her freshman campaign. She is the first Big West woman to claim three or more awards in a season since Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg picked up all five distinctions in the 2016-17 season.

Also nominated: Linley Ooi (Cal State Fullerton), Vanessa Richani (Long Beach State)
