Momo Sugiyama of Hawai'i Earns Second Monthly Honor of Freshman Campaign

  • Momo Sugiyama posted two top-3 finishes in the month of March to claim her second Big West Golfer of the Month award in her freshman campaign at Hawai’i.  

  • Sugiyama tied for third at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with a 3-over 219 total to open the month, helping the Rainbow Wahine to a second-place team finish. 

  • At the Fresno State Classic, she was runner-up after firing a school-record 54-hole total of 5-under 211. Her final round 69 in the event was marked by four birdies to go along with 13 pars as she finished one back from medalist Jessica Hall of Fresno State. 

  • Her impressive performance powered Hawai’i to its third team title of the season and a program-best 1-over 865 team tally. Hawai’i shot a 6-under 282 in the final round of the tournament, a new 18-hole school record which included a new 18-hole school record of 6-under 282 in the final round. 

  • Sugiyama has posted six Top 5 finishes in nine tournaments played this season heading into next week’s 2022 Big West Women’s Golf Championships in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
