Freshman Pair of UC Irvine’s Gleed and UC Santa Barbara Hurler Gallagher Earn Weekly Honors

  • Freshman infielder Dub Gleed batted .529 (9-for-17) with six runs and nine RBI while aiding UC Irvine to a 3-1 week, all against Big West foes, that included a series victory at UC San Diego.
  • Gleed led the ‘Eaters in both hits and RBI for the week, with three doubles, his first collegiate home run in Tuesday’s non-conference home win over Cal State Fullerton, three hit-by-pitches, and just one strikeout. He had at least one hit, one run and one RBI in all four contests.
  • Gleed drove in a season-high four of UCI’s six runs against the Titans, and now paces the team in that category. He lifted his batting average up over .300 for the first time, from .254 heading in, to .310.
  • Gleed played at third base, first base and second base throughout the course of the week, and handled all seven defensive chances cleanly.
  • Gleed is a first-time Big West Field Player of the Week, and the first ‘Eater baseball student-athlete to be recognized in 2022. UC Irvine (19-11, 8-4 Big West) began and ended the weekend in fourth place.

  • UC Santa Barbara right-hander Ryan Gallagher allowed a single run (via wild pitch) over a season-high 8.0 innings in Sunday’s 7-1 victory as the Gauchos completed the road sweep of CSUN.
  • The freshman out of Granite Bay struck out five against four hits and four walks, one of them intentional, in improving his win-loss record to 3-0 on the year.
  • Gallagher’s Gauchos have now won all four of their Big West sets, with CSUN marking their second sweep (both on the road), as UCSB (21-8, 10-2 Big West) has taken over sole possession of first place in the standings.
  • Gallagher ranks third on the team in both innings (39.0) and strikeouts (31), with his season ERA at 3.46. He has allowed just one home run in those 39 frames.
  • Gallagher is also a first-time Big West Pitcher of the Week, and the second Gaucho arm to be honored in 2022, following staff ace Cory Lewis on Feb. 28.
