Cal Poly's Lee, UC San Diego's Dalquist Earn Weekly Honors

  • Cal Poly redshirt sophomore Brooks Lee batted .500 (8-for-16) over four contests with three runs, seven RBI, one stolen base and four intentional walks while striking out just once. He handled all 11 defensive chances cleanly at shortstop.

  • Of Lee’s eight hits, four were doubles and one served as his second home run of the season as he slugged .938 for the week.

  • The preseason All-American extended his hitting streak to eight games, all multiple-hit efforts, before having it snapped on Sunday. Lee went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two walks, three runs and two RBI in Saturday’s 15-11 win at UNLV. His two-run blast ignited a three-run eighth that tied the score ahead of the Mustangs’ five-run ninth.  

  • This is Lee’s fourth career weekly recognition after back-to-back awards on March 8 and March 15, 2021, and another on May 17, 2021.

  • UC San Diego true freshman right-hander Matthew Dalquist provided season highs of 7.0 innings and 10 strikeouts in just his third collegiate start at Santa Clara on Friday night.

  • The Redondo Beach product allowed just one run on five hits and one walk, posting a trio of 1-2-3 frames and exiting with a 4-1 lead before the Broncos rallied in the final two innings for a 5-4 walk-off victory.

  • Dalquist posted the first double-digit strikeout performance by a Triton arm of the program’s Division I era. 

  • Dalquist becomes the second UC San Diego hurler to earn Big West Pitcher of the Week distinction in as many years since the Tritons joined the conference, after Cameron Leonard on March 15, 2021.
