  • Long Beach State right-handed pitcher Luis Ramirez helped the Dirtbags to a season-opening victory at No. 3 Mississippi State on Friday to earn his first career Big West weekly award.

  • The sophomore from East LA tossed six shutout innings to pick up the win in the 3-0 decision. He did not allow a hit in his scoreless outing and only two balls left the infield.

  • Ramirez totaled five strikeouts in 20 batters faced as the bullpen combined for the shutout. The Bulldogs hadn’t been shut out since April 17, 2021, a span of 34 games. That April loss to Ole Miss was the only time they got blanked on the scoreboard during their championships season.
