Sophomore Ian Gilligan continues to dazzle on the links, as the 2021-22 Big West Freshman of the Year has now claimed both Fall 2022 Golfer of the Month honors. This marks Gilligan’s third career monthly honor, all coming in the fall (Nov. 21, Sept. 22, Oct. 22).

Gilligan won the individual title at the Mackenzie Invitational after firing a 15-under 201 in the three-round event hosted by Cal at the Sonoma Golf Club finishing five strokes ahead of his nearest competitor. The sophomore rolled in a tournament-best 15 birdies with under-par rounds of 70, 66 and 65 to claim his second-consecutive individual title as the Beach tied for fifth in the team standings.

The Reno, Nev., native closed the month in the Cal Poly Invitational, battling the windy conditions to shoot 70-69-75–214 (-2) and tie for 13th. Long Beach State tied for ninth in the event, alongside San Francisco and Oregon State.

Gilligan closed the month averaging 69.2 strokes per round, and was the top finisher among Big West competition in both tournament fields. Long Beach State is set to tee off spring play on Jan. 30-31 at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
