2021-22 Big West Freshman of the Year Ian Gilligan picked off right where he finished last season to earn Golfer of the Month honors for September. This marks Gilligan’s second career monthly honor, also claiming distinction in November 2021.

Playing in one event in the month, Gilligan rolled in 17 birdies en route to team and individual championships for Long Beach State at the Nick Watney Invitational.

The sophomore finished with a career-best 14-under par 199 performance to tie the program’s low 54-hole score. Knotted at the top of the leaderboard after three rounds of play with Cal State Fullerton’s Harry Doig, Gilligan earned individual medalist honors after winning a two-hole playoff at Kings River Golf and Country Club.

Gilligan led the Beach to a program-record as well as the team carded a 30-under par total of 822 to finish five strokes ahead of the Titans as The Big West took to the top two spots in the 16-team field.
