Long Beach State Extends Lead After Day Two Of Men's Golf Championships

Long Beach State turned in another stellar performance in round two of the Men's Golf Championships, extending its lead to 10-under with just one more round to go.

The Beach shot 5-under in round two, topping its first round finish by four strokes. The combined 570 through two rounds is a whopping 10 shots ahead of second place UC Davis (+4, 580). The Aggies had a strong round two as they shot 4-under (284), a big jump from the 8-over performance it carded after round one. Speaking of big jumps, none was bigger than Cal State Fullerton in round two. The Titans collectively carded a 6-under 282, not only the best round of the day but an impressive 18-stroke improvement from the first round. The performance moved CSF to third overall at +6 (582).

Cal Poly finds itself in fourth after a 2-over second round put their two-day total at +10 (586). In fifth place is UC Santa Barbara at +14 (590), while sixth belongs to CSUN at +20 (596). UC Irvine actually had the best overall improvement from round one, finishing 20 strokes better in the second round. It stands at +26 (602), while Hawai'i at +29 (605) and UC Riverside at +71 (647). Complete the standings.

UCD's Lucas Carper maintained his position atop the leaderboard thanks to a 5-under 67 on the day, matching CSUN's Blake Brothers for the best round of the day. Brothers' eight-shot improvement jumped him up into a tie for second on the individual leaderboard at 2-under with Cal State Fullerton's Garrett Boe and Long Beach State's Hunter Epson. The Beach has the next two golfers on the overall leaderboard at 1-under in Clay Seeber and Isaac Rodea. 

After no one carded a score under 70 in round one, six players did it in the second round. Carper, Brothers and Boe (69) were joined by Cal State Fullerton's Tegan Andrews (69), Long Beach State's Tyler Schafer (69) and UC Irvine's Darien Zhao (68).

The final round features the only reseed of the tournament as well as the longest course of the event at 7,006 yards. The action begins at 8:00am with Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara and CSUN teeing off from hole 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. UC Irvine, Hawai'i and UC Riverside tee off at 8:10 a.m. PT to 8:50 a.m. PT from hole 10. The top three clubs Long Beach State, UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton will get their final round started from hole 1 at 8:50 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
