Long Beach State Streaks Ahead After First Round Of Men's Golf Championships

Long Beach State turned in an impressive performance in round one of the Big West Men's Golf Championships, finishing the day nine strokes clear of second place Cal Poly and UC Davis.

La Quinta Country Club saw the Beach finish with a 1-under 287, powered by Hunter Epson, Clay Seeber and Isaac Rodea who each shot 1-under 71s on the day. The trio are all tied for second on the individual leaderboard, finishing one shot behind UC Davis' Lucas Carper.

The Mustangs and Aggies were both 8-over (296) after round 1. Cal Poly's low round belonged to Luke Adam who shot 1-over (73), while UCD's Thomas Hutchison shot even par to follow up Carper.

Fourth place was UC Santa Barbara at +11 (299), while Cal State Fullerton stands in fifth at +12 (300) and CSUN sixth at +14 (302). Right behind the Titans in seventh is Hawai'i at +15 (303), with UC Irvine at +23 (331) and UC Riverside at +43 (331) completing the first round standings.

Carper, Epson, Seeber, Rodea and Hutchison were the lone players to shoot par or better over the 6,997 yards of round one. Round two features a course of slightly less yardage at 6,960. The teams will keep their pairings for the second round as UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i and UC Riverside tee off first at 10:30am PT. CSUN, Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine tee off at 11:20am PT, while the top three seeds coming into the championship, UC Davis, Long Beach State and Cal Poly tee off at 12:10pm PT.
