LUKE SPILLANE, UC IRVINE
BASEBALL FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Freshman • Outfielder • Mission Viejo, Calif. • Mission Viejo HS
• The long ball – and plenty of them – led to the selection of UC Irvine freshman Luke Spillane as the Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week.
• Spillane hit his first four career home runs all in one series, plying his power to help the Anteaters win a pair of seven-inning run-rule games at CSUN by a combined margin of 37-6.
• He became the first Anteater with two homer games on consecutive days. In Saturday’s 17-3 triumph, he hit a second inning grand slam on a 2-2 pitch for his first career homer.
• The outfielder drove in 13 runs for the week – and had multiple 6-RBI games. He is among a small pool of Anteaters to have multiple 2-HR and multiple 6-RBI games.
• Spillane posted at least one hit in all four games. He scored a total of eight runs, including a career-high four times in Saturday’s win.
• For the week, the Mission Viejo product hit .381 (8-for-21) with a .952 slugging percentage. He went 3-for-3 in the 17-3 win and 3-for-6 in Sunday’s 20-3 outburst.
