Big West Announces 2021 Women's Golf Major Awards

2021 BIG WEST WOMEN'S GOLF AWARDS & ALL CONFERENCE RELEASE

The 2021 edition of the major women’s golf awards were announced following the conclusion of the Championships at Yorba Linda Country Club. Cal State Fullerton’s BRITTANY SHIN claimed the Player of the Year award, while tourney champion Cal Poly scored the Freshman of the Year in NICOLE NEALE and Coach of the Year in SOFIE AAGAARD.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR • BRITTANY SHIN, CAL STATE FULLERTON
Senior • Cape Coral, Fla. • Canterbury HS

• Becomes the second Titan to win the Player of the Year award (Martina Edberg - 2017).
• Compiled a 73.6 stroke average across six tournaments this season.
• Won two tournaments this season and claimed Big West Golfer of the Month accolades on two occasions.
• Twice had a low round of 67 this season, including in her most recent win at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
• Finished in a tie for fourth at the Big West Championships, including a final round 69.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR • NICOLE NEALE, CAL POLY
Dove Canyon, Calif. • Tesoro HS

• Third straight Mustang to win Freshman of the Year honors.
• Competed in seven tournaments in her rookie season, compiling a 75.2 stroke average over 21 rounds.
• Finished second at the Valley Invitational, her first collegiate tournament.
• Recorded a low round of 70 on four occasions, including most recently at the Big West Championships.
• Had six rounds of par or under and five top 20 finishes in her first season.

COACH OF THE YEAR • SOFIE AAGAARD, CAL POLY
• Third Coach of the Year award in six years at the helm of the Mustang program.
• Led Cal Poly to its second Big West championship in program history.
• Led Mustangs to four top three finishes in its seven tournaments this season, compiling a 75.6 stroke average in 21 rounds.

The league also announced the All-Conference lists, highlighted by six golfers on the first team. Shin and Neale were joined on the first team by the UC Davis duo of JACKIE LUCENA and MADISON WOOD, 2021 Tournament individual champion HOLLAND SHOURDS of Long Beach State and UC Irvine’s SIENNA LYFORD.
