Church, Boone Named To Baseball Weekly Honor Roll

BASEBALL FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK

• UC Irvine sophomore Nathan Church earned his first career Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award as he helped his team to a four-game conference sweep of Hawai‘i.

• Church batted .412 (7-for-17) for the series, posting a least one hit in all four games and extending his hit streak to 10 straight.

• The outfielder also scored six runs and drove in six more. He scored at least one run in all four contests and has a nine-game streak with a run scored.

• Church hit a two-run homer, his first at Anteater Ballpark, to tie the game at 4-4 in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. He finished the game with three RBI.

• He had a double in game two of Saturday’s twinbill and smacked a triple in the series finale, a 20-10 victory. He ended up 3-for-5 three runs scored and an RBI.

• Church is the nation’s leader with five triples.

• He also stole a base to give him six on the season.

RODNEY BOONE, UC SANTA BARBARA
BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

• UC Santa Barbara junior Rodney Boone notched his third career Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award following a stellar performance against UC Davis.

• Boone contributed to the four-game sweep of the Aggies with a complete game, two-hit shutout in game three of the series.

• It was the first complete game of the season by a Gaucho. UCSB won the game 12-0, which ended in seven innings due to the Big West run-rule policy of leading by 10 or more runs after seven.

• In addition to keeping the Aggies to two hits, Boone walked just one and struck out six.

• Boone improved to 4-1 on the year and lowered his ERA to 1.42. He has 29 strikeouts in 31.2 innings of work this season.
