• Cal State Fullerton senior Derek Castillo earned the Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month award for March after claiming individual medalist honors at the Sacramento State Invitational.

• Castillo collected his first career honor after shooting a 1-under par total of 215 on the par-72, 6,514-yard Valley Hi Country Club course, the lowest score among the field of 65 competitors.

• The local product out of Yorba Linda, Calif. helped the Titans to the title by 23 strokes, bettering nine other teams including Big West counterparts Cal Poly, CSUN, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara.

• Castillo, who trailed teammate and tournament leader Jack Dyer by three strokes entering the final round, carded a 4-under 68 to take the individual crown. He opened the event with rounds of 73 and 74 on the first day.

• It was the second straight year that the Titans won the Sacramento State Invitational.
