• Sophomore Zach Lew collected his first career Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award after leading Cal State Fullerton to a series victory over No. 17 Stanford.
• The infielder hit .462 (6-for-13) over the three-game set at Sunken Diamond. He played a role in six of the team’s 14 run total, scoring five times and recording one RBI.
• Lew went 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks and three runs scored to help the Titans defeat the Cardinal, 7-1, in the season opener on Friday. He drew walks in the first and fifth – the latter leading to a four-run explosion.
• In Saturday’s 6-1 victory, Lew produced a career-high four hits, finishing 4-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI. Lew spearheaded the 18-hit Titan attack that led to head coach Rick Vanderhook securing his 300th career win.
• Lew hit safely in all three games as he picked up another hit in Sunday’s series finale.
• For the week, Lew posted a .533 on-base percentage and .615 slugging percentage.

ALFREDO RUIZ, LONG BEACH STATE • BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

• Long Beach State sophomore Alfredo Ruiz notched his first career Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor with a stellar performance in a series-clinching victory over Cal.
• Ruiz tossed seven innings of two-hit shutout ball in Saturday’s 4-0 victory against the Golden Bears.
• The two hits allowed were infield singles.
• The southpaw stymied Cal’s offense as he was just two over the minimum while racking up a career-high 10 strikeouts. He also did not walk a batter.
• Ruiz threw an economical 79 pitches with 78 percent going for strikes. The combined shutout with reliever Jonathan Carlos was LBSU’s first of the season.
