Junior Emily Byrne led an upset-minded UC Davis squad to an important conference victory to earn the distinction as Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week.
• Byrne was a central factor in the Aggie 11-10 upset win over No. 9 UC Santa Barbara in Big West action on Saturday.
• She recorded a hat trick – her third of the season and fifth of her career – and drew four of the team’s 10 exclusions on Gaucho players.
• Byrne drew a five meter penalty foul in the first quarter, which was converted for the only goal of the first period for UC Davis.
• She also made two steals against the Gauchos.
• Byrne, who leads the team with 47 drawn exclusions and 11 drawn 5 meter penalties, has saved her best for Big West play with three goal performances against Hawai‘i and UCSB.
• She played just nine minutes in an 18-9 road win over Cal State Monterey Bay in which the Aggies utilized their entire roster.
