LA JOLLA, Calif. — Making a 10th national collegiate championship appearance, Big West champion Hawai'i fell to fourth-seeded California 15-10 in the quarterfinal round from the Canyonview Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon.
The Rainbow Wahine hung tough for the first half, trading goals with the Bears in the opening minutes with Big West Player of the Year Agatha Weston evening the score at one apiece on a penalty shot with 6:26 on the clock in the first period. California score the next two before Weston again edged closer with Weston finding the back of the net off the pass from Ema Vernoux. California then pulled ahead with a streak of goals, including one from Eszter Varro, closing the quarter with a 5-3 lead.
Both teams scored twice in the second period, with Hawai'i striking for goals on the powerplay on both occasions. The first came at 7:06 from Big West Freshman of Year Ariadna Temprano Xambo with Vernoux adding to the tally to make it 6-5 in favor of the Bears with 4:50 remaining in the period. California scored once more in the frame to set the score at 7-5 heading into halftime.
The third quarter, Camille Radosavljevic and Weston again connected for scores, but Cal was able to extend the lead in the half, eventually pulling away for the 15-10 win.
Hawai'i was paced by Weston's team-leading five-goal effort with Vernoux adding two goals and two assists. Roni Peralman finished with three assists and a steals with Alia Burlock closing the contest with three steals and a block for the 'Bows. In goal, Daisy Lotgens registered 11 saves on the day.
California got goals from eight different players with five scoring multiples. The Bears improve to 14-8 on the season and advance in the brackets to face No. 1 seed Stanford. UH caps the season at 17-6 and ranked No. 5 in the last CWPA poll.
Along with the distinction of representing The Big West on the national stage as the regular- and postseason champion for the third consecutive season, a Hawai'i student-athlete won a third straight NCAA Elite Scholar Award with
Gabrielle Doyle named the 2026 honoree. The award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each national championship and Doyle maintains a 4.0 gpa in her business studies.
