JAKE PALMER, UC IRVINE – BASEBALL FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK

• Undeterred by injury that sidelined him for several games, UC Irvine sophomore Jake Palmer returned to the lineup with an explosive performance at the plate, earning him Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week honors for the first time.
• The outfielder hit .714 (10-for-14) in a series sweep of UC Davis. He had a pair of 3-hit games, and one 4-hit game to pace the Anteater offense.
• Palmer also scored five runs and drove in a pair as the ‘Eaters moved into a tie for second in the Big West standings at 15-6.
• The El Segundo native walked twice and ended up reaching base 13 times in 20 at-bats out of the leadoff spot, a .650 on-base percentage.
• Palmer spearheaded UCI’s offensive attack in Friday’s 10-2 win, going 4-for-5 and scoring three times while tying his career single-game high for hits and runs.
• He followed with back-to-back 3-hit efforts as UCI won by scores of 5-2 and 10-4. He scored in each game and added a double in Saturday’s win.
• Palmer also went 1-for-4 with a walk in Tuesday’s loss to nationally ranked UCLA, finishing the week with a .611 (11-for-18) average.

TRENTON DENHOLM, UC IRVINE – BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

• UC Irvine sophomore Trenton Denholm collected his fourth Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award this season after tossing his third complete game of the year.
• It was Denholm’s fifth career citation, becoming one of just seven pitchers in Big West history with that many weekly awards.
• The right-hander improved to 9-3 on the year, allowing five hits and two runs in the 5-2 victory over UC Davis on Saturday.
• Denholm did not issue a walk and struck out nine batters. It was his fourth start this season in which he succeeded in not walking a batter.
• After allowing a pair of runs in the first two innings, Denholm calmed down and proceeded to retire 14 straight batters.
• Denholm still owns the best ERA (1.77) in the Big West and ranks second with 87 strikeouts on the year.
