• UC Santa Barbara junior Eric Yang helped propel his squad to a series victory over the reigning conference champions in capturing his first career Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award.
• The catcher hit .500 (7-for-14) as the Gauchos took two of three from Cal State Fullerton at Goodwin Field over the weekend. Yang scored four runs and knocked in six more, playing a role in 10 of UCSB’s 22 runs during the series.
• Overall, Yang hit .444 (8-for-18) for the week as he went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored in a midweek game against Saint Mary’s
• Yang helped No. 17 UCSB begin its quest for a Big West title in favorable fashion as he turned in two big offensive performances. He went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs in a 7-6 victory against the Titans on Friday.
• On Saturday in a 9-7 loss, Yang reached base in all five plate appearances. He finished the game 4-for-4 with a walk. He scored a run and tallied four RBI’s while adding a stolen base.
• Yang leads the Big West with a .422 average and ranks second in RBIs with 25.

MICHAEL CLARK, CAL POLY – BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

• Lockdown closer Michael Clark nailed the door shut in three straight Cal Poly wins to secure his second career Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor.
• The righty came on in relief in three tight games against CSUN to open Big West play, throwing a combined six innings of hitless, scoreless ball to help the Mustangs to a 3-0 league start for the first time since 2014.
• Clark yielded just one walk and struck out nine over the three appearances. In Friday’s series opener, Clark fanned six Matadors in 3.2 innings of work to anchor the 2-1 triumph.
• He struck out two more CSUN hitters in the ninth inning of Saturday’s 3-1 win and went 1.1 innings in Sunday’s 4-2 victory.
• In earning his fourth, fifth and sixth saves of the season, Clark now owns a 2.49 ERA for the year and is tied for second in the Big West in saves.
