Martinez, Denholm Named To Baseball Weekly Honor Roll

• UC Santa Barbara sophomore Andrew Martinez earned his first career Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award, aiding a Gaucho offensive onslaught in four wins.

• The second baseman hit .538 (7-for-13) with four runs and five RBIs as the Gauchos outscored the opposition 35-10 en route to the 4-0 record.

• Three of Martinez’s seven hits went for extra bases, including his sixth and seventh homers of the season as he posted a 1.077 slugging percentage over the four games.

• Martinez went 5-for-9 in a sweep of Long Beach State. After going 1-for-3 in the series opening 8-2 win on Friday, Martinez posted a 2-for-3 effort with two runs, two RBIs and a solo shot in a 13-1 rout on Saturday.

• In Sunday’s 8-4 win, Martinez repeated his 2-for-3 performance and cashed in a pair of runs with a single and a double.

• Earlier in the week, he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in a 6-3 victory over Saint Mary’s.

• The San Francisco native also walked three times to finish the week with a .625 on-base percentage.

TRENTON DENHOLM, UC IRVINE – BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

• UC Irvine sophomore Trenton Denholm notched his third Big West Pitcher of the Week award this season as the conference’s ERA leader tossed another gem.

• Denholm also became just the 14th pitcher in Big West history to earn at least four weekly pitching awards.

• The right-hander helped knock Cal Poly out of first place in the Big West standings with eight shutout innings in Saturday’s 8-0 win.

• Denholm scattered just four hits, walked two and tied his career high with 10 strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 1.74 on the year.

• He helped the Anteaters record their eighth shutout, which is tied for second in the nation. He has participated in four of them.

• Denholm improved to 8-3 on the year, and is tied with teammate Andre Pallante for the Big West lead in wins.
