Seric, Volodko Earn First Career Tennis Weekly Awards

Hawai‘i sophomore Blaz Seric claimed his first career Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award thanks to continued stellar play in singles and doubles.

• Seric finished a combined 5-0 in singles and doubles despite a 1-2 week for the Rainbow Warriors.

• Seric helped UH to a big 4-3 road win against UC Davis. He teamed with Simao Telo Alves to clinch the doubles point at No. 2 with a 7-5 win over the Aggie tandem of Chethan Swanson and Nil Giraldez.

• Seric also clinched the overall team win for UH with his 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-3 win over Giraldez at No. 3 singles.

• Despite UH’s  league losses to UC Irvine and UC Riverside, Seric defeated both of his opponents. He downed UCI’s Daniel Gealer, 7-6 (5), 6-0, and UCR’s Nabil Abdallah, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4), coming out on top in three tiebreaker sets.

WOMEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

UC Santa Barbara sophomore Elizaveta Volodko went undefeated with four wins against a pair of conference foes to earn her first career Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award.

• Volodko helped the Gauchos split against UC Riverside and Hawai‘i on the road. She led UCSB’s 7-0 win over the Highlanders with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 3 singles over Mahil Silpachai.

• In a 6-1 loss to the Rainbow Wahine, Volodko captured the only UCSB point, as she downed Nikola Dolakova by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. That snapped Dolakova’s three-match win streak.

• Volodko and partner Anastasia Goncharova went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles. They were the only Gaucho duo to win against UH, taking down Michelle Pits and Roxanne Resma in a 6-3 decision.
