Big West Announces 2019 Women's Soccer All-Conference Team

2019 WOMEN'S SOCCER ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

The regular season champion and upstart newbie were the big winners of the Big West women’s soccer awards announced Wednesday.
    
Regular season champion Cal State Fullerton nabbed two honors as ATLANTA PRIMUS was named Midfielder of the Year and MEGAN DAY the Freshman of the Year. A historic season for Hawai’i earned head coach MICHELE “BUD” NAGAMINE the Coach of the Year honor and ALEXIS MATA the Goalkeeper of the Year award. The final two accolades went to players on Big West Tournament teams as SHAELAN MURISON of UC Santa Barbara was named the Offensive Player of the Year and CSUN’s AMANDA MARTIN claimed the Defensive Player of the Year honor.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR • SHAELAN MURISON, UC SANTA BARBARA
Senior • Forward • Santa Clara, Calif. • Santa Clara HS
• First Gaucho since 2009 (Kailyn Kugler) to earn Offensive Player of the Year honors and seventh overall.
• Finished the regular season leading the Big West in goals (17), points (41) and shots (84). Third in the league in assists (7).
• Currently ranks fourth in the NCAA in points.
• During conference play, led the Big West in goals (9), assists (4), points (22), shots (35) and tied for the top spot in game-winning goals (2).
• Posted four multi-goal games including two hat tricks.
• Tied for fifth in Big West single season history in goals.
• Scored more goals than three teams in the league and is just two behind another.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR • AMANDA MARTIN, CSUN
Senior • Defender • Las Vegas, Nev. • East Career & Technical Academy
• Third Matador to win Defensive Player of the Year honors and first since Nicole Thompson in 2016.
• Started all 18 matches she appeared in, helping CSUN allow a league-low 16 goals on the season and post a 0.77 goals against average.
• Has started 70 of 76 career matches on the backline for the Matadors.
• Scored first career goal against San Diego on September 15.
• Contributed to 10 shutouts, the most among Big West schools.

MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR • ATLANTA PRIMUS, CAL STATE FULLERTON
Senior • London, England
• Fifth Titan to be named Midfielder of the Year and first since Christina Burkenroad in 2015.
• Ranks second in the Big West in goals (10), first in assists (12), second in points (32) and tied for fifth with two game-winning goals.
• Assist total is tied for fifth in the NCAA and is tied for third-most in a single season in Big West history.
• Has scored or assisted in 14 of 18 CSF matches this season and has nine multi-point matches.
• Recorded a season-best five points (1 g, 3 a) against Northern Colorado on August 30.
• Twenty-three career assists is the most in Titan history and is tied for sixth in Big West history.

GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR • ALEXIS MATA, HAWAI’I
Senior • Woodland, Calif. • Pioneer HS
• First UH player to win Goalkeeper of the Year award.
• Started all 17 matches for the ‘Bows, leading the Big West in minutes (1,636) and saves (96).
• Also ranks fourth in goals against average (1.32), second in save percentage (.800) and fifth in shutouts (5).
• In conference play, posted a 1.15 goals against average, 46 saves, two shutouts and saved 82.1% of the shots she faced.
• Posted 10 saves on two occasions and recorded five or more saves in 12 matches.
• Helped Hawai’i allow one goal or less in 11 of 17 matches

COACH OF THE YEAR • MICHELE “BUD” NAGAMINE
• Becomes first Coach of the Year recipient from Hawai’i.
• Led the Rainbow Wahine to their first Big West Tournament berth in program history.
• Led UH to a program-record point total in conference play (15) and also tied a program-best with four victories against league foes.
• Hawai’i won its conference opener for the first time as a member of the league.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR • MEGAN DAY, CAL STATE FULLERTON
Defender • La Mirada, Calif. • La Mirada HS
• Only the second recipient of the Freshman of the Year award from Cal State Fullerton and first since 2002 (Karen Bardsley).
• Started 13 of her 18 contests on the Titan backline, including each of the last 10.
• Helped Cal State Fullerton defense allow just 17 goals and record nine shutouts this season.
• Added two goals on the season, including the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over UC Riverside on October 13.
• During conference play, anchored a Titan defense that allowed just four goals and shutout four opponents.
