Senior Irene Gonzalez earned Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week honors as the driving force behind Hawaii’s upset of No. 5 Arizona State.
• Gonzalez claimed her third career weekly award.
• She posted four goals, two assists and one steal in the 10-7 victory over the Sun Devils at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
• Gonzalez netted UH’s first goal of the game, then followed up with a pair of second quarter goals before scoring her fourth goal on a lob during a third period power play.
• Gonzalez helped UH defeat its third nationally ranked opponent this season as the team improved to 4-0. It is the program’s best start since 2010.
• She has scored three or more goals in all four games this season.
• With 15 goals on the year, Gonzalez is up to 181 in her collegiate career. She moved past Amarens Genee for third on UH’s all-time scoring list. The school record is 247 by Monika Eggens.
