Fryer Earns Golfer of the Month Honor

Long Beach State junior Joe Fryer won his second straight Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month award after claiming his second tournament victory this season.

Fryer Named Top Golfer For April

Long Beach State junior Joe Fryer (Bristol, England/Kamiak HS) earned his third career Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month award as he strung together three top-15 finishes in April, including individual medalist honors at the UCSB Intercollegiate.

In a tune-up for the Big West Championship, Fryer claimed the title with a 4-over 220 to help his squad to a second place finish at Sandpiper Golf Course.  He shot a 1-under par 71 in the first round.

Fryer began the month at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational, posting a 10-over par 223 that tied him for 12th overall in a field of 87.  The Beach finished fourth among 17 teams.  He moved up 10 spots from a tie for 22nd place on the final day as he carded a 1-over 72.

In between those tournaments, Fryer tied for third place at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Ariz.  Helping LBSU to its third top-5 team finish for the month, Fryer strung together three consecutive rounds of under par scores.

Finishing with a 7-under 209 at the Whirlwind Golf Club, Fryer saved his best for the final 18 as she shot a 68.  He weaved in four birdies into the round without a single bogey.  After shooting 71 and 70 through the first 36 holes, he improved in each round to climb a total of nine slots on the leaderboard.

LBSU has finished in the top 5 in five consecutive tournaments.
