UC Irvine senior Kelsey Thornton (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) scored nine goals against four nationally ranked teams to capture Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week accolades.
The attacker tied her career high with four goals in a 14-10 victory over No. 12 San Diego State. She notched three more goals in a narrow 9-8 win over No. 7 Hawai‘i, including two consecutive goals in the fourth quarter after the Rainbow Wahine tied it at 6-6.
Thornton also scored a pair of goals in a 12-7 loss to No. 5 Arizona State, as UCI earned a sixth place finish in the tournament.
