UC Irvine senior McKenna Mitchell (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS) led the team with four goals in each of her team’s season-opening wins over No. 24 Cal Baptist and No. 23 CSU Bakersfield, notching Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week accolades.
Mitchell, who redshirted the 2016 season, made an immediate impact in accounting for nearly a quarter of the Anteater offense.
The four goals is one shy of her career-high.
UCI knocked off Cal Baptist 20-4, the 20 goals tying for the seventh-most for goals in a game in school annals. The Anteaters outscored opponents 33-7 in the first two games.
