Women's Soccer Weekly Release No. 9
AROUND THE BIG WEST
NOTHING GETS BY McCASKILL
Junior goalkeeper Jovani McCaskill has ammassed 10 shutouts this season, the most of anyone in the NCAA. After posting two additional clean sheets last weekend, McCaskill is tied for the most so far this campaign. Her 10th shutout is just one clean sheet away from tying the Matador program mark for the most in a single season set by Jenny Willemse in 2001 and matched by Cynthia Jacobo in 2012. Her mark has also earned her a spot in the Big West record book at No. 7. The record stands at 12 (CSUN has five games remaining in the regular season). McCaskill’s 1461:20 minutes between the posts ranks third-best across the nation.
MATADOR SHUTOUT STAMPEDE
With a .733 shutout percentage, CSUN has the second-best mark in collegiate soccer. Its 11 shutouts is also second-best just behind Lehigh with a .769 average. Additionally the Matadors’ .891 save percentage is sixth-best in the nation.
STUART PENS NAME IN TITAN RECORD BOOK
Cal State Fullerton senior goalkeeper Jennifer Stuart recorded her 31st career victory last weekend after CSF defeated Long Beach State 1-0, the second-best win total all-time for the Titans. The senior also recorded her 15th-career shutout W, the third-most all-time for CSF. The Titans next face UC Santa Barbara on the road.
HAWAI‘I CONTINUES HISTORIC CAMPAIGN
Hawai‘i has amassed a 9-3-1 overall mark so far in 2016, guaranteeing the Rainbow Wahine its first winning season since 2008 and the first for coach Michele Nagamine.
Leading from the backfield, Mink Berger recorded her sixth shutout on the year, just a single clean sheet off of her record setting season in 2013 as a freshman.
TOURNAMENT COUNTDOWN
The Big West women’s soccer tournament is just three weeks away. Cal State Fullerton continues to lead the pack with nine points, two points ahead of the next closest contender in CSUN and Long Beach State (7). If the Tournament was today, the field would include: Fullerton, CSUN, LBSU and Hawai‘i. Hawai‘i looks to make its first Big West Tournament field.
BIG MATCHES ON DECK
Long Beach State travels to the island Saturday for a clash of two top teams in league. Then Sunday, Cal State Fullerton will square off against UC Santa Barbara in a rematch of last year’s Big West Tournament semifinal.
