The Big West Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Month for April feature a pair of standouts from UC Davis.

Vivolo Wins First Collegiate Tournament

UC Davis junior Luke Vivolo (Carmel, Calif./Carmel HS) highlighted his Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month award for April with a first career collegiate tournament victory on his school’s home course.

Vivolo won the El Macero Classic, turning in a career-best 54-hole total of 10-under 206 and outdistancing his closest competitor by eight shots.  It was the largest margin of victory in the UC Davis Division I era and believed to be one of the largest in program history.  Vivolo carded rounds of 67 and 66 before finishing with a 73.  His second-round 66 represented a career-best score as an Aggie.  Vivolo led the 59th-ranked Aggies to a successful defense of its team title as they posted a 10-shot win over rival Sacramento State and Marquette.

He posted a pair of top-20 finishes in two previous tournaments during April.  He finished in a tie for 14th with a 2-over 212 (68-70-74) at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational and tied for 17th at 4-under 212 (68-71-73) at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.  Vivolo was a collective 12-under for the Aggies’ three tournaments in April and he came in under par in five of nine rounds.

This is Vivolo’s second career Golfer of the Month honor after receiving the award in February.

Others nominated: Mitch Martin (Cal Poly); Ryder Epson (Long Beach State); David Kim (UC Irvine); Hunter Robinson (UC Santa Barbara)

Lee Posts Third Top-10 Finish

UC Davis sophomore Paige Lee (Folsom, Calif./Granite Bay HS) captured her second career Big West Golfer of the Month award after highlighting her only action in April with a top-10 finish.

Lee finished sixth overall (among 83 golfers) with a 5-over 221, punctuated by a second-round 68 at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational in Dallas, Texas.  It was the second time this season that she shot 68 and the fourth time she broke 70.  Lee tallied four birdies and 14 pars during that round of 68, while representing the lowest total of the round.  She helped the 24th-ranked Aggies tie for third place with No. 40 Texas Tech in the 16-team tournament.

The performance was her second straight top-10 finish and third of the spring (in five events).

Others nominated: Savannah Knox (Long Beach State)
