The steady play of Marriette Harris (Walnut Creek, Calif./Monte Vista HS) led Long Beach State to two road wins against nationally ranked opponents and to Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week honors for the freshman goalkeeper.
Harris made seven saves in an 8-6 victory over No. 19 UC San Diego. She was key in neutralizing the Triton offense after the 49ers fell behind by three goals early in the second period.
She provided 11 saves to spur the 15th-ranked 49ers to a 5-4 upset of No. 12 San Diego State on Saturday. She held the Aztecs to just one goal in the first half as LBSU built a 3-1 lead.
Her 18 saves total for the weekend allowed the 49ers to even their season record at 7-7.
