UC Santa Barbara freshman Camila Schafer (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prepatory HS) earned Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week accolades as she helped her team to a 3-1 record at the Aggie Shootout.
The Gauchos knocked off three nationally ranked teams and narrowly lost to a fourth thanks to the solid play of Schafer. She scored five goals, and had a hat trick in the third quarter, to spearhead UCSB’s 7-5 victory over host No. 10 UC Davis in the tournament opener.
Schafer notched a key goal with 5:13 to play as the Gauchos recorded two late scores to upend No. 20 Santa Clara, 6-5. She also had a goal in a 5-3 win over No. 17 Wagner and a 7-6 loss to No. 14 Pacific.
The utility player leads the Gauchos with 33 goals this season.
