Lam Wins Two Singles Matches, Helps Defeat Ranked Doubles Foe
The Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor went to Hawai‘i senior Carter Lam (Honolulu, Hawai‘i), who helped knock off the nation’s No. 39 doubles team and won two of his three singles matches on a west coast road trip.
Partnering with Nils Schuhmann, Lam upended the No. 1 doubles duo from Washington, Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke, by a 6-4 score for their first dual match doubles win this season.
Lam also collected singles victories from the No. 4 position against Seattle’s Connor Leahy, taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision to help UH win the team match, 6-1. Although the Rainbow Warriors lost 5-2 to No. 41 San Diego, Lam accounted for one of the two points with his 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Romain Kalaydijan. He nearly had a third singles victory in a marathon three-setter against Washington’s Jake Douglas, ultimately falling 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
