UC Santa Barbara freshman Camila Schafer (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prepatory HS) sizzled on offense during her collegiate debut, garnering her first career Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week honor.
The utility player scored a team-leading 12 goals as the Gauchos posted a 2-4 record at the season-opening UCSB Winter Invite.
Schafer notched seven of those 12 goals against nationally ranked competition. She had a hat trick in a 10-8 loss to No. 17 Michigan, tallied a pair of goals against No. 2 UCLA, and added two more versus No. 16 Loyola Marymount.
In UCSB’s season debut, a 16-1 rout of Azusa Pacific, Schafer collected her first career hat trick before returning later that day to do the same against Michigan.
