The heroics of Cal State Northridge senior Melissa Doll (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area HS) helped her earn Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week honors.
Trailing 8-7 against No. 9 Hawai‘i, the Matadors appeared headed for defeat when Doll delivered a game-tying goal with two seconds to play in regulation. CSUN went on to win, 9-8 in double overtime, and preserved its unbeaten record (2-0) in Big West play.
Doll played a key role throughout the match, scoring three goals to go along with three steals and an assist for the seventh-ranked Matadors. Doll’s other goals twice shaved the deficit to two at the end of the second and third quarters.
CSUN is now 21-6 overall on the season.
