Cal State Fullerton competitors Martina Edberg and Mark Anguiano posted a trio of top-three finishes in four tournament starts to garner Big West Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Month recognition for March.
Edberg Earns Medalist Honors At Spartan Invite
Cal State Fullerton freshman Martina Edberg (Glumslov, Sweden/Klippans Gymnasieskola) claimed Big West Women’s Golfer of the Month honors as she became the first Titan women’s golfer to earn medalist honors in a multi-day event since the program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season.
Edberg accomplished the feat at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite thanks to three consecutive rounds of 71. Her 54-hole total of 3-under 213 tied her with Oregon’s Cathleen Santoso and New Mexico’s Sammi Stevens for the individual title.
Edberg also paced the Titans at The Farms Invitational, an event that featured six teams ranked in the Golfstat top-25 and 16 in the top-100. Edberg shot a 16-over 232 (78-77-77) to tie for 49th place in the field of 92 golfers.
Others nominated: Madison Hirsch (Cal Poly); Clariss Guce (Cal State Northridge); Chaewon Park (Long Beach State); Betty Chen (UC Davis)
Anguiano Continues Strong Spring Season
Cal State Fullerton senior Mark Anguiano (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) parlayed five sub-70 rounds and a pair of third place finishes into Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month honors for March.
Anguiano fired team-best back-to-back rounds of 66 to begin the Long Beach State-hosted Del Walker Intercollegiate at the Virginia Country Club. He finished with a final round 73 and carded a 54-hole total of 5-under 205, good for third place among the field of 64 golfers.
At the Desert Shootout, Anguiano shot under-70 in all three rounds to tally a final score of 12-under 204 and a third place tie. On the 7,015 yard Palm Valley Country Club course, Anguiano posted his third 66 of the month in the tournament’s second round, and sandwiched a pair of 69’s around that.
Fullerton’s top performer in both tournaments, Anguiano led the Titans to a sixth place finish at the Del Walker and a fourth place showing at the Desert Shootout.
It is Anguiano’s second straight Golfer of the Month honor after he won individual medalist honors at the CSF-hosted Folino Invitational in February.
