Three top-10 finishes for UC Irvine’s Pete Fernandez (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale HS) earned the junior Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month accolades for April.

Fernandez recorded six rounds under par out of nine played in April.  He shot 5-under par for the month.  He now owns six Top-10 finishes on the season and leads the team with a 72.7 tournament stroke average.

He finished in a tie for fourth out of 115 golfers at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.  Fernandez posted a 4-under total of 206 with rounds of 67-69-70 at Talking Stick-North in Scottsdale, Ariz.

At the Western Intercollegiate, Fernandez fired another 4-under 206 to finish tied for third in a field of 92.  He had consecutive rounds of 69 to open the tournament at Pasatiempo Golf Club and finished with a 68.  Fernandez scored better than six players who were ranked inside the Top-20 Golfstat national rankings at the time of the event.

Fernandez closed out the month at the OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate, tying for seventh overall among 67 golfers.  He carded a 3-over 217 (73-74-70) with the final round 70 the lowest score by an Anteater golfer.

Fernandez was the top finisher for the Anteaters in all three tournaments, helping them finish seventh at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, ninth at the Western Intercollegiate and sixth at the OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate.
